Ethiopian Women's Organiztion

Located in the DFW metroplex

History

Founded March 21st 2004, by Etalemahu Fikre Taddesse, Ethiopian Women’s Organization, is a nonprofit organization that is located in the DFW metroplex committed to improving the lives of women.  At the core of its work and approaches is a belief that achieving gender equality is essential for development, democracy, and progress.  We believe that women are critical development actors and can be powerful catalysts for social change.  They play vital care-giving roles to children, the aged, and the disadvantaged.  They are often the keepers of culture and the mediators during conflict.  Ethiopian Women’s Organization mobilizes women to achieve equality.  Their equality is essential to building stronger families, communities, and societies.  We envision a world in which women are able to fulfill their dreams free from the constraints of poverty and inequality and their full worth is realized and valued.  To ensure that women control more resources and have a voice in decision making.

Plan

Ethiopian Women’s Organization is dedicated to helping Ethiopian women who have little support.  We provide them with information, financial, and emotional support, when they otherwise would not find it.  The organization is new, but has already helped dozens of women find jobs, shelter, transportation, food, and emotional assistance.  We also put our efforts into helping women who are new to America, and who are not adapted to the new culture.  We help them learn English and the proper skills to adjust to a new environment.

Mission

Our mission is to help as many Ethiopian women as possible. We are here to help women who are in need of support. From finding jobs, and a place to stay, to showing them the new customs of America, we are here to help. We all only have one life to live and we should live it to the fullest. We need to lend a helping hand in creating a better life for our people. All women are beautiful and without them there wouldn’t be men. All women are strong and powerful, all we need is a chance and we can do great things.

A little more:

The organization also brings together Ethiopian women in the community.  Meetings are held once a month and provide women an outlet to get to know each other and communion together.  We also recognize members’ birthdays, anniversaries, and celebrate holidays together.  The organization is there to help Ethiopian women in all facets of their lives and membership is steadily growing each month.
