Shelters provide temporary shelter and non-resident services for victims of family violence and their children. Non-residential centers provide the same services, except shelter, for victims.
Services are free for all victims and their children and are provided without any financial eligibility testing.
Services provided by the Family Violence Program include:
Temporary 24-hour shelter: A state-funded shelter center that provides temporary emergency residence for survivors of family violence 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
24-hour hotline:1-800-799-SAFE (7233) - A telephone number answered 24 hours a day, every day of the year, by trained volunteers and employees who provide survivors of family violence with:
Immediate intervention through safety planning.
Understanding and support.
Information about shelter center services.
Referrals to other services.
The program provides emergency shelter and support services to victims and their children, educates the public, and provides training, and prevention support to various agencies.
Assistance in obtaining medical care.
Information about training for and seeking employment.
Information and referral to other services.
Legal advocacy: Face to face services directly to the client that include assisting clients in:
Identifying an individual's legal needs (including court accompaniments).
Legal rights and options.
Providing support and accompaniment in their pursuit of those options.

HHSC advises victims of family violence to call the 24-Hour National Domestic Violence Hotline at1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or TDD 1-800-787-3224.
If you are in an emergency situation and need help right away from the local police department, please call 9-1-1.
The Family Violence Program can be contacted by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.You must include your contact information in the body of your message if you need someone to contact you. The names and addresses on e-mails are automatically removed to protect the identities of those sending e-mail.
